Winter President's Letter

Dear Wonderful Sisters of the P.E.O. District of Columbia Chapter,

Happy Winter! Well, as we all know, the weather can be quite unpredictable, much like life itself. Despite the chilly temperatures, I trust each of you is finding joy and warmth within our beloved Sisterhood. As we embark on the new year, I’m filled with gratitude for the incredible energy and dedication you bring that have made this P.E.O. year truly special.

Celebrating Achievements

Reflecting on the past months, I’m thrilled to share that the D.C. Chapter has been buzzing with activity. From engaging meetings to delightful social events and successful fundraisers. So far this year, we have welcomed 25 new members into P.E.O. – 17 by initiation, 8 by transfer in or reinstatement!  Thank you for helping our Sisterhood grow and thrive!

Love is Our Superpower

Our commitment to philanthropy remains steadfast. I extend my heartfelt thanks to each chapter and each sister for helping us achieve our D.C. Chapter and International’s goal of philanthropic vitality. In addition to our P.E.O. project fundraising, in 2023 our chapters also rallied around our Cottey College “Feather their Nests” campaign, where eight s/p/d’s work to raise $25,000 by 2025 to refurbish Cottey’s Seaboard Suite. By the end of 2023, we’d raised $1,845 toward this goal with funds still coming in from chapters and one year remaining in the campaign. Way to go!

Looking Ahead: Exciting Events

As we embrace the winter chill, let’s also look forward to some exciting upcoming events that promise warmth and camaraderie:

  • Reciprocity Event: The Great P.E.O. Bake-Off, March 16, hosted by Chapters AA and AE, promises to be a sweet and joyful gathering of P.E.O. Sisters, unaffiliates, and guests. Check out our Membership web page for more details!
  • D.C. Officers Workshop, April 6, 2024, 9:30-11:30 a.m. via Zoom, open to all new and returning officers for the 2024-25 P.E.O. year, is an opportunity for the D.C. Executive Board to share insights and resources to support you in your officer roles. Thank you for serving your chapters!
  • 88th Convention of the District of Columbia Chapter, May 4, 2024, at Kenwood Country Club, a day of celebration, goal setting, and reinforcing the bonds that make our Sisterhood extraordinary.

Dues Reminder: Time to Shine

As we navigate February, let’s not forget the importance of timely action. It’s dues time! Please ensure your dues are paid to your chapter treasurer no later than February 29. If you come across sisters who might need a friendly reminder, a warm hello, and an update on chapter happenings can go a long way.

In the spirit of P.E.O., let’s exercise our Superpower, and have some fun! Your participation, enthusiasm, and love continue to make our Sisterhood a beacon of light even in the coldest of seasons.

Lovingly in P.E.O.,

Ashley Ridlon

President, P.E.O. District of Columbia Chapter
